The Royal Tombs of the Scythians
26 October 2007 – 20 January 2008

This exhibition was the first such comprehensive presentation of the history and culture of the Scythians. The focus was on finds from princely tombs in southern Siberia, the Altai Mountains, southeastern Kazakhstan, and the southern Urals, as well on treasures from the regions east and north of the Black Sea.
The exhibition was conceived and organized by the German Archaeological Institute and the Museum of Prehistory and Early History of the Berlin State Museums, in collaboration with the Kunsthalle der Hypo-Kulturstiftung and the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg. The show was first presented in Berlin, then in Munich, and finally in Hamburg. Museums and institutions from Germany, Kazakhstan, Romania, Russia, Hungary, and Ukraine participated in the preparation and execution of the project, making it possible for numerous unique objects to be presented to German and European audiences for the first time.
