Lecture in German: Digital by Nature The Art of Miguel Chevalier

Lecture by Dr. Franziska Stöhr (Kunsthalle München).

Since the 1980s, Miguel Chevalier has been using cutting-edge digital technologies as a means of artistic expression—today, this also includes artificial intelligence. At the heart of his work lies the interplay between artist and machine, as well as between system and chance, serving as an extension of individual creativity. Inspired by artists such as Marcel Duchamp, Jean Tinguely, Victor Vasarely, and Vera Molnár, Chevalier merges technology with artistic vision and actively engages the audience. In her lecture, curator Franziska Stöhr offers insights into Chevalier’s oeuvre and its art-historical grounding—with a focus on authorship, chance, and interaction.

Lecture in German: Fractal structures in nature. About evolution's creative play with shapes and patterns

Lecture by Dr. Anže Žerdoner Čalasan (Bavarian State Collection for Botany).

Fractal structures are omnipresent in nature: in the branching of trees, the delicate veins of leaves, the meandering of rivers, or the organic growth of fungi and corals. They arise from simple processes repeated many times, uniting order and variation. This lecture explores how evolution playfully experiments with these principles to generate a fascinating diversity of forms and patterns.

MVHS Family Tour in German: Gardens of Light and Color – the digital worlds of Miguel Chevalier

For children aged six and above accompanied by adults

On our museum tour, we experience shapes, colors, and light and discover spaces filled with artificial life, which the artist Miguel Chevalier creates using digital techniques and projects onto floor-to-ceiling screens. Here, chance plays a major role, allowing his worlds to develop a life of their own. We see meter-high plants growing before our eyes, bending, falling over, and growing again. We let ourselves be surprised and enchanted. Then we create our own magical worlds with pencils and paper.

Adults: €8, plus admission
Children: €5, plus admission
Material fee: €1

Payable on site: Admission Registration required for all participants
