Back to the Figure Contemporary Painting 2 June – 27 August 2006 In the summer of 2006 the Kunsthalle der Hypo-Kulturstiftung presented a big group exhibition entitled “Back to the Figure – Contemporary Painting” with around 120 pictures from 80 international artists. By showing the whole range of figure paintings it was possible to sum up the painting boom of the early 21st century up to 2006. The exhibition, in six chapters, concentrated on pictures of people and shows the topical and historical traditions behind the pictures. Each work must been produced after the year 2000 in order to qualify for the exhibition. The age of the artist was immaterial – what mattered was the production date.
