Water in Myth and Nature Cranach, C. D. Friedrich, Nolde, Beckmann ... 3 June – 21 August 2005 For the first time, the Kunsthalle presented an interdisciplinary exhibition. The theme revolved around the element water. The project’s main focus was in the visual arts area, however an additional coming to grips with the subject matter was offered within the range of the exhibition, which went beyond individual historico-cultural aspects. Water-related motifs have changed over the centuries. From the wealth of material, five sections were established into which important masterpieces of a particular era were incorporated. These works included paintings from Max Beckmann, Arnold Böcklin, Canaletto, Lukas Cranach, Caspar David Friedrich, David Hockney and many others. Special partnership Additional enquiries within the scientific, economic, technological and political sectors were also explored in cooperation with the Technische Universität München, Deutsches Museum, Munich Re Group and the Bavarian State Office for Water Management.
