Silent World Italian Still Life 6 December 2002 – 9 March 2003 Exhibition This exhibition was the first comprehensive presentation of the diversity of Italian still lifes from the 16th to 18th centuries. With masterpieces from European public and private collections by artists like Arcimboldo, Caravaggio, Baschenis, Porpora, and Recco, the exhibition presented the various artistic centers in Italy, from Lombardy to Tuscany to Rome and Naples, presenting the many variations within this extremely rich genre. This allowed for a new look at the splendor of Italian Baroque. At the same time, the great difference to Dutch and French still life painting was demonstrated. Works by Nordic masters such as Brueghel or Dürer, who worked in Italy, complemented this survey. Many of the approximately 200 paintings from three centuries of Italian painting were exhibited and published for the first time More Less Exhibition Leaflet All exhibitions of the Kunsthalle
