Rudolf Wachter

From the Trunk
12 September – 9 November 2003

On the occasion of the 80th birthday of Rudolf Wachter (1923–2011), the Kunsthalle paid tribute to the work of this sculptor, who had been based in Munich since 1949. Wood was both Wachter’s point of departure and his material, which he viewed as a living matter and with which he engaged in a dialog. His monumental outdoor sculptures are reduced to elementary basic forms, as are his reliefs, cubes and spirals created for interiors.
The exhibition presented around 50 sculptures, which were also installed outside the exhibition rooms of the Kunsthalle – for example, an eight-meter-high mahogany trunk was set up in front of the entrance to the Kunsthalle on Theatinerstrasse.
