Madame de Pompadour L’art et l’amour 14 June – 15 September 2002 Exhibition As the “Reine du Rococo”, Madame de Pompadour (1721–1764) is probably one of the most famous women in history. Her name is associated with one of the most glamorous eras in Europe. The exhibition showed paintings, sculptures, furniture, porcelain, jewelry and tapestries of the French 18th century from the collection of the important patroness and mistress of Louis XV. Her own artistic activity as a pupil of François Boucher was also documented with drawings and prints. The exhibition, created in collaboration with the Palace of Versailles and the National Gallery in London, provided an insight into the palaces furnished and inhabited by Pompadour, such as Bellevue, St. Ouen and Ménars, the Hôtel d’Evreux and her apartments in Versailles. These and numerous other residences demonstrated her elegance and taste. In Munich, the influence of the “Style Pompadour” on some German royal courts such as Karlsruhe, Zweibrücken and others was also illustrated. After the Munich venue, the exhibition was presented at the National Gallery in London. More Less Exhibition Leaflet Past Exhibitions of the Kunsthalle
