El Dorado Gold of the Royal Tombs 20 Mai – 4 September 1994 The so-called “Treasure of the Quimbaya” formed the centrepiece of the exhibition. For its reconstruction, the Museo de América in Madrid provided the most important works: large lime containers in the shape of human figures, helmets, necklaces, ear and nose jewellery. Overall, most of the gold objects now in museums came from tombs. The most outstanding objects were in princely tombs, where they were intended to reflect the special social position of the deceased beyond death. With over 200 exhibits, this exhibition presented the most important cultural areas of pre-Hispanic Colombia. The exhibition was organised in cooperation with the Museo del Oro in Bogotá, which provided most of the loans, the Museo de América in Madrid and the Museum für Völkerkunde in Berlin. The latter house also showed the exhibition after Munich. More Less Exhibition Leaflet All exhibitions Of the Kunsthalle
