Niki de Saint Phalle Paintings, Sculptures, fantastic Gardens 26 March – 5 July 1987 Niki de Saint Phalle (1930—2002) achieved international fame with her brightly colored polyester sculptures, especially the Nanas. The cheerful, matriarchal counter-world created with these images of women has established her position in modern art, which is as unique as it is singular. Niki de Saint Phalle is an outsider, hardly fitting into an established art historical category. Gifted with an inexhaustible imagination, she achieved something very rare in her sculptures: she is able to address the most diverse age groups and social classes equally and to motivate them to trust their own feelings, their spontaneity.
