Lovis Corinth 1858 – 1925 24 January – 30 March 1986 Exhibition The exhibition was organized in collaboration with the Museum Folkwang in Essen. Without emphasizing any specific period of Corinth’s oeuvre, the show attempted to trace the development of certain pictorial ideas and changing styles. Without being an exhaustive retrospective, the selection included numerous key works by Corinth, as well as little-known but characteristic images that contributed to an understanding of his career. Divided into thematic groups, the early realist paintings were presented, as well as those featuring literary subjects, portraits and self-portraits, nudes, still-lifes, landscapes, and genre paintings.
