James Ensor

Belgium around 1900
31 March – 21 May 1989

Exhibition

After René Magritte and Paul Delvaux, James Ensor (1860–1949) was the third great Belgian painter of the 19th/20th century to be presented at the Kunsthalle. His oeuvre was showcased through 72 works from all creative periods. The diverse artistic output in Belgium around 1900 was rounded off with 37 works by 18 other artists, such as Henri de Braekeleer, Fernand Khnopff and Henry van de Velde. The loans came from public and private collections and galleries in Europe and the USA.
