Exhibition

The opening exhibition of the Kunsthalle der Hypo-Kulturstiftung in Munich was dedicated to German Romantic painting. It was organized jointly with the Bavarian State Painting Collections. Around 100 paintings and 40 works on paper from international museums and private collections illustrated how German Romantic painters saw and experienced themselves and their environment.
The exhibition was divided into five thematic areas: Portrait – Interior and Urban Landscape – Nature Studies and Rural Genre – Atmospheric and Symbolic Landscape – Literary Themes. Among the artists represented were: Karl Blechen, Carl Gustav Carus, Johan Christian Clausen Dahl, Johann Georg von Dillis, Carl Philipp Fohr, Caspar David Friedrich, Georg Friedrich Kersting, Wilhelm von Kobell, Adolph von Menzel, Friedrich Overbeck, Franz Pforr, Carl Rottmann, Philipp Otto Runge, Julius Schnorr von Carolsfeld, Moritz von Schwind, Adalbert Stifter.
