Claude Monet
and modern art
23 November 2001 – 10 March 2002
For the first time in Munich a exhibition had presented the great impressionist Monet. The exhibition was curated by Dr. Karin Sagner-Düchtin. Monet’s later works, in particular the water lily pictures, were copiously represented and juxtaposed with pictures of the Modern Age which originally go back to Monet’s influence. In this connection pictures by Mark Rothko, Jackson Pollock, Barnett Newman, Ellsworth Kelly, Clyfford Still, Willem de Kooning and many others were shown.
